Fall Town Meeting convenes Monday evening

Town Meeting gets underway Monday evening, October 30th, at 7:30 p.m. at Amherst Regional Middle School.

Town Meeting members are encouraged to arrive a little early so that the meeting can start on time.

Non-Town Meeting members are always welcome to attend. There are sections in the rear of the auditorium, behind the main entry aisle, where non-members may sit. The main seating area is reserved for voting members.

A non-member who wishes to address the body can stand directly behind the reserved section, raise a hand and wait to be recognized by the Moderator.

The warrant for this Town Meeting has 18 articles, though several will be dismissed or referred back to their relevant boards and brought forward again at a future date. Click here to read this warrant, and click here to read a blog entry interpreting its content.

Within this Fall Town Meeting, a Special Town Meeting will also be convened, on Wednesday, November 1st at 7:35 p.m.. There are conflicting reports as to whether that meeting will be immediately adjourned and reconvened after all the business of the original meeting’s warrant is concluded, or whether the Special meeting’s warrant will be addressed upon convening Wednesday.

The warrant for the Special Town meeting contains four articles, all addressing national and international issues. Click here to read this warrant. Addressing such topics at Town Meeting has long been a contentious issue.

All sessions will be broadcast live on ACTV's channel 17. Rebroadcasts will take place throughout the week, and the schedule for those is available by clicking here and scrolling to the bottom of the page.
