A new mural is being painted on the entry ramp to the parking garage.

The town’s Public Art Commission chose Easthampton artist Briana Taylor to create the painting, after putting out a call for submissions to area artists.

Terry Rooney, co-chair of the Commission, said “Different parts of the Amherst landscape are included in the mural,” and cited elements of the Yiddish Book Center, a dove from a local cemetery stone, and references to the Town Hall’s stained glass window, which was a past project of the Public Art Commission. Rooney said that additional description of the local elements will be available when the work is complete, which she expects to be within the month.

Taylor, who received a small honorarium from the commission, has had previous local displays of her work at the Burnett Gallery and Town Hall.
